Desert Botanical Gardens (Phoenix): The Gardens showcases 17,000 species of desert plants and a large research center. There are more than 50,000 plants scattered through five themed trails that detail topics like desert living, conservation, desert wildflowers, and people of the Sonoran Desert. Why? It's spring! The peak blooming time for many Arizona native plants occurs in March through May. Mexican poppies occurs in March and April.
