Saponif-what?? That's the scientific name for soap. Oatmeal, lavender, rose petals in a cocoa butter base. When I'm not entertaining my guests or hosting a cooking class night out, the kitchen's the lab for other projects.
Last month it was smudge sticks made from local Arizona sage harvested by moi. (that's another post).
I know sometimes my friends think I'm a bit obsessive - tackling so many DIY projects at once that I've never tried before. The truth is that once you’ve started a DIY adventure it’s kind of addictive! And let's face it, there’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you stand back and admire something you made, designed or built yourself!
3 Reasons I Love DIY
You Get Exactly What You Want. When you DIY, you have control over everything! And you know exactly what and how it's done (and what's not done). And if corners get cut, at least you've cut them yourself!
You Learn New Skills. The more things you learn, the more confident you feel tackling bigger projects. You keep that nice keen edge on your mind, and new skills can lead you down paths you never knew existed.
You Get a Sense of Achievement. Aside from saving money, this has to be the best reason in my mind to DIY. I think back to more than 10 years ago when we purchased our Arizona home in Litchfield Park. It was a disaster but we renovated from the studs on out and created our dream retirement home (and B & B guest house). I learned so many new skills by just by doing and I'm still amazed how much is possible if you take your time and learn new skills.
